Start with the scope of responsibility
Steel tonnage alone does not define an order. In one project, the contractor receives completed fabrication drawings; in another, they are involved during design. Explain whether your enquiry covers design, fabrication, surface protection, transport and erection. Identify work assigned to other project participants as well.
Share the documentation and its status
Include available drawings, specifications and schedules. Identify document revisions and explain which assumptions have been approved. If the project is still conceptual, say so clearly. A preliminary estimate based on assumptions serves a different purpose from a quotation based on complete documentation.
Information worth collecting
Rather than providing a single overall deadline, outline the project stages. Location and site organisation may influence structural segmentation, deliveries and the choice of erection equipment.
- Project location and a technical contact.
- Scope of work, drawings and surface protection specification.
- Delivery plan, site access and erection constraints.
- Acceptance requirements and handover documentation.
Compare quotations on the same basis
Before comparing prices, review assumptions, exclusions and the scope of each quotation. A difference may reflect excluded transport or a different protection system. Clarifying these details early helps prevent scope changes during delivery.
Your next step
Gather the documents you already have and contact KSH Steel. Together, we can establish what is needed for the next stage.
